An Uphill Climb
02/11/03

Life is like an uphill climb
and our goal is to reach the top.
It takes many years to finally get there
and by then we wish we could stop.

We're tired and worn and seek to rest
but the journey must continue on.
We've traveled through storms along the way
and many times we've felt so alone.

On the top of the hill we stand amazed
and know that now we must journey down.
We started out young and full of zeal
but things are now different we've found.

With our youth behind us we look below
and know it's time to keep moving along.
Time is now short and we're aging fast
and very soon this life will be gone.

We began as a baby and then we grew
and went from toddler, then to teen.
Now we're adults and soon to be seniors
and the hills are very far and between.

Life In The Country
02/17/03

I remember living in the country
and how so often we'd run and play.
I remember the crickets
and how they'd chirp
in that old familiar way.

I remember chasing fireflys
and putting them in a jar.
I remember catching junebugs
and playing, that's my car!

I remember playing with frogs
and swimming in the creek.
I remember spin the bottle
and playing hide and seek.

I remember making mud pies
and baking them in the sun.
I remember grabbing for tadpoles
and how quickly they would run.

Yes I remember life as a child
and oh what times we had.
But all those days of growing up,
are gone, and it makes me sad.

But still I have the memories
and they're recorded in my mind.
So whenever I'm feeling sentimental,
those days as a child, I rewind!

Winter
02/24/03

Winter is like a persons life
that is long and filled with sorrow.
Winter is like the difficult times
and the dread of another tomorrow.

Winter is like a cold dark grave
and an atmosphere that has no peace.
Winter is like a bad situation
with no way of escape or release.

Winter is like a depressing day
with not a trace of bright sunshine.
Winter is a season when all is dead
and it's not a favorite season of mine.

Winter is a time when ponds freeze over
and the ground is hard as stone.
Winter is a time that's dreary and sad
and a time when the sun is gone.

If The Ocean Could Speak
03/01/03

If the ocean could speak
I wonder what it would say?
Would it give us any clue
where many dead bodies lay?
Would it tell the sad stories
of famous airplane flights?
And how they sank in its depths
after crashing in the night.
If the ocean could speak
I wonder what it would say?
About the unsinkable Titantic
as it went down that day.
Would it tell of little children,
many men and women too?
As a watery grave overtook them
and there was nothing they could do!
Would it tell of their groans
while tormented with great fear?
Or would it tell of pleading voices
calling on a Savior to draw near?
If the ocean could speak
oh what stories it could tell.
About last minute choices
between Heaven or Hell.

Sailing On The Nimitz
03/09/03

From so far away he contacts me
While sailing on the Nimitz out at sea.
He sends me pictures of planes high above
And along with them he sends his love.

He sends me pictures of the ocean so wide
And of Navy ships sailing side by side.
I see no land but water instead,
A life so different than he once led.

I see many Sailors standing on deck
They seem so small, like a tiny speck.
It's through a computer that this is done
By way of e-mail, I talk to my brother Ron.

Yes knowledge has increased, I'd say for the better
E-mail is much quicker than mailing a letter.
In a matter of seconds he can talk to me
Though sailing on the Nimitz far out at sea.

My Brother, who is Commander aboard the USS Nimitz.

A Waterfall
03/17/03

The sound of a waterfall
is pleasing to my ear.
It gives me satisfaction
to listen while I'm near.

It never takes a moment
to slow its steady pace.
It's always in a hurry
to reach its destined place.

As the water rushes forward
and falls so far below.
My eyes admire its beauty
and the gracefulness of its flow.

Growing Old
03/24/03

I don't quite function
as I did years ago.
My vision is blurred
and my reflexes are slow.
My memory is failing
and my hearing's not good.
My clothes don't fit
in the places they should!
My teeth are removable
and can be stored in a jar.
From time to time
I forget where they are.
Sleeping's not a problem
I can do it anywhere!
I'm often found snoozing
sitting up in my chair.
Corns on my toes
make walking really tough.
And for some strange reason
I'm having cravings for snuff!
The simplest of things
I have to be retold.
Is it my imagination;
or am I growing old?

This War
04/08/03

Daddy's are hugging their little girls;
and kissing their wives goodbye.
Many will leave never to return;
because while in this war they'll die.
Mother's are watching as son's disappear
on planes equipped for war.
Tears are falling from their eyes
as they wonder if they'll see them once more.
Son's are fearful as they leave
and travel to a place far away.
Daughters are weeping as they go;
while mothers long for them to stay.
God is watching - and He cares,
for everyone that is involved!
Now we must pray for their safe return
until the day this war is resolved!

Watch The Tide
04/15/03

Come and see
he said to her.
Come look
at the ocean so blue.
Open your eyes
and gaze at its beauty
while I fix my eyes
upon you.

As she obeyed
he whispered to her;
Come near
and rest by my side.
Place your hand
right here in mine
And together
we'll watch the tide.

Operation Iraqi Freedom
04/22/03

Day after day I've watched the news
as they tell of the War in Iraq.
And every day it seems to get worse
with many dying from surprise attacks.

Soldiers were executed and thrown in a pile
and then filmed for the world to see.
Some were even taken as POW's
and it was shown on Iraqi T.V.

While one mother watched she saw her son
as he spoke to the camera in fear.
Oh how helpless she must have felt
and I'm sure that nothing seemed clear.

Night after night this War goes on
with many soldiers never stopping to rest.
I can't help but cry when I hear the news
of how our soldiers were faced with death.

Evil Saddam is a murderer at heart
and he's proven that Satan's his master!
Now America must pray for God to intervene
so this War doesn't end in disaster!

Already many soldiers have given their lives
so that the Iraqi's can walk in freedom.
Now the world should be thankful for their brave deeds,
and trust that one day in heaven they'll meet them.
